Your child should be using their homework and student agendas to generate home discussions about his/her school day. Please make an effort to go through your child’s agenda nightly and discuss how the day went and what is coming up, then initial it to show that they did their home reading. AR testing will be required with at least 5 points 1st quarter… then 10 points 2nd 3rd & 4th quarters,
I am asking for a parent (or guardian) signature on the agenda every day. Sign your initials at the bottom of each day or in the block that is circled in green. They will have reading and math homework everyday & spelling weekly. Students should be reading about 150 minutes a week. This can be accomplished with 30 minutes every weekday or 20 minutes all seven days. I will sign student agendas daily and/or weekly to show that they have completed the expected work (if I have circled the area in green ink or highlighted in yellow - there is missing work that has not been turned in). I will write $10 in green near Friday if the student planner and school work are completed for that week. Each student may earn $15 instead if they also read each night and list the book (or if it states $5 in green then their agenda was late). Student agendas are a great place for notes back and forth from home & school. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me firstname.lastname@example.org
Every student should have some homework each school night. Homework consists of reading (30 minutes nightly or 150 minutes weekly) & math/spelling (15-20 min. nightly). If they are using their time wisely in class they should have about 10-15 problems each night. It is important that they practice both their spelling words and multiplication/division flashcards throughout the year. If they do not have (or forgot) their AR books, they can read things from home. Spelling is another area that will have weekly homework assignments. I will also be sending home weekly spelling lists the Friday before on an orange paper, Monday we will tape spelling lists in agenda & Wednesday/Thursday a practice worksheet will go home. The tests will be Friday each week. At any time you may go over words on these lists to practice and/or review. Graded papers are sent home bi-weekly, (but some papers are available on every Friday, your child just needs to remember to empty their folder.
Grades will be updated every two weeks on Powerschool and midterms are sent home between quarters. I am looking forward to a wonderful and productive year!
